HSS drill bits, are widely used and available in various sizes. High-Speed Steel (HSS) drill bits are the most economical general-purpose option currently on the market. You can use this versatile drill bit on various materials, like plastic, metal, and hardwood, and you can resharpen it to extend its lifetime.

HSS drill bits are suitable for both hand drilling and machine drilling. They're also quite tough and heat-resistant, which makes them suitable for high-speed drilling applications.

Some HSS drill bits are coated. This improves the surface hardness and reduces friction, rendering the drill bit more wear-resistant and further extending its lifespan. Titanium drill bits have a longer life span and greater corrosion resistance than standard HSS drill bits. They can also drill at higher speeds.

Meiwha Drill Tools offer HSS Drill and Alloy Drill. The HSS Twist Drill Bit Ground is for drilling through metal with maximum precision. The bit's exposed 135-degree self-centring split-point tip combines active cutting and perfect centring without wandering, delivering maximum precision. The split-point tip also eliminates any need to pre-punch or pilot drill for up to 10 mm. This precision-ground bit made of HSS (high-speed steel) enables up to 40% faster drilling rate and up to 50% lower feed pressure than standard-ground HSS drill bits with chisel edges. This bit is designed for drilling holes in alloyed and non-alloyed steel, cast steel, cast iron, sintered iron, malleable cast iron, non-ferrous metals and hard plastics. It has a cylindrical shank system (shank equal to drill bit diameter) and is intended for use in drill stands and drill drivers.

Meiwha also manufactures Taper Shank Drill(D14) with this type of shank. The obvious difference is indicated by the name: a straight shank is cylindrical, with the tool 'length' being adjustable as it is clamped in a collet or parallel jaws, a taper shank is conical, fixes the tool's cutting edge positions, and can be tightened longitudinally via a drawbar through a hollow stock.
